Liverpool won over West Ham in the 27th Premier League

Liverpool, despite being second behind Man City and almost winning the Premier League this season, still play their best in the match against West Ham. The victory made them not only closer to the domestic title after 30 years of waiting, but also balanced the record of 18 consecutive victories in the Premier League of Man City in the beginning of the 2017-2018 season. After round 27, Liverpool had 79 points, equal to the number of points they won when winning the 1989-1990 season.

Despite a good start, the home team must be sweaty to have the 26th victory in 27 matches this season. Georginio Wijnaldum’s first-half header only gave Liverpool an advantage in three minutes, before Issa Diop equalized 1-1 from a corner in the 12th minute.

The evolution of the first 15 minutes of the game shows that statistics are only relative in football. West Ham, despite being 18th before the round, have conceded the least in the first 15 minutes in the Premier League this season, with only one goal conceded. They are also the team with the least goals scored in aerial combat (one goal). The top two things happened, in the away match, the Anfield audience experienced all emotions.

Holding the ball only 31% in the first half, West Ham still frequently threatened Alisson’s goal with a strategy of putting the ball to the edge and expect luck from fixed situations. In the first 45 minutes, they had up to six corners and Diop’s equalizer came from such a phase. On the Liverpool side, right-back Alexander-Arnold continues to be a bright spot.

After assisting in the 11th goal this season, he almost increased the score to 2-1 at the end of the half, with a free kick that smashed the defender West Ham close to the post. In the next corner, Virgil Van Dijk hits the crossbar.

Unless you are Atletico Madrid, the best way to defeat Liverpool this season is to attack and make the most of opportunities. Guardian’s comments became grounded, when West Ham surprised at the beginning of the second half. The visitors put the squad up to play fair with Liverpool and increased the score to 2-1 thanks to a one-touch finish of the player on behalf of Pablo Fornals.

Winning 3-2, Liverpool are 22 points ahead of Man City after the 27th round. Jurgen Klopp’s teachers will win if they win four more matches in the tournament. West Ham was stomping at 18th place, one point behind the safety group.
